Programs Available at Illinois School of Health Careers:

Dental Assistant

The Dental Assistant diploma program provides graduates with the training and skills that will enable them to qualify for entry level positions as dental assistants in a variety of dental services offices. Since they are trained in clinical, radiographic and administrative procedures, their services are sought in dental offices, orthodontists, children’s dentists and by dental schools, dental supply manufacturers, hospital dental departments and insurance companies. Graduates of the Dental Assistant diploma program are also capable of filling entry level positions such as dental receptionist, dental insurance clerk, dental supply salesperson and administrative assistant.



Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant diploma program is designed to train students for entry-level positions as medical assistants in a variety of health care settings. Students study the structure and function of the major body systems and medical terminology, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, computer skills, administrative processes, bookkeeping and the processing of medical insurance forms and claims. In recent years, the medical assistant profession has become indispensable to the health care profession. Their services are being sought by medical offices, ambulatory care providers, clinics, hospitals, urgent care centers, nursing homes, medical supply businesses, home health agencies, insurance providers and pharmaceutical companies. This diploma program prepares graduates to fill entry-level positions such as clinical or administrative medical assistants, medical receptionist and medical insurance billing assistants. 



Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician diploma program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as patient care technicians in a variety of health care settings.  In this multi-occupational diploma program, students are cross-trained to perform any number of clinical skills from performing electrocardiograms as an EKG Technician, to collecting laboratory specimens, or to assisting a patient. 

The Patient Care Technician graduate can expect to find entry-level employment opportunities in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and urgent care centers.  In addition to being qualified to work as a Patient Care Technician, graduates of this program are also qualified to work as a Nurse’s Aide, Home Health Aide, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Aides, Phlebotomists, Laboratory Assistants, EKG Technicians or Respiratory Therapy Aides. The Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program includes the final module, which is referred to as a “clinical rotation.” During this rotation, which takes place at the completion of all classroom and laboratory training, students are given the opportunity to observe and become part of the health care team, as they gain hands-on practice working side-by-side with other health care workers.

Chicago O'Hare (Cumberland)

Illinois School of Health Careers, Cumberland Campus is located at 8750 W. Bryn Mawr, in northwest Chicago near O’Hare Airport. The facility consists of classrooms, laboratories, X-ray room, resource center, computer lab and student lounge. It is conveniently located in Northwest Chicago and easily accessible from the Cumberland exit off the Blue Line or the Kennedy expressway (I-90).
